Hellversus is an unofficial free 2D fighting game based on Helltaker, the popular puzzle game created by vanripper. Developed by Japanese creator kyo-hei, Hellversus features demon girl characters from the original Helltaker in fast-paced combat. While not officially licensed, it follows vanripper's fan creation guidelines and has been well-received by the Helltaker community.
Yes, Hellversus is completely free to download and play forever. There are no advertisements, microtransactions, or hidden costs. You can optionally support the developer kyo-hei through Patreon for exclusive content and early access to new builds, but this is entirely voluntary.
Currently Hellversus features 2 playable characters: Modeus (the Lustful Demon, a fast combo specialist) and Zdrada (the Bitch Demon, a heavy damage dealer). Developer kyo-hei has announced plans to add more characters including Lucifer, Justice, Pandemonica, Judgement, and Cerberus in future updates.
Hellversus is currently available for Windows PC only. The game can also run on Steam Deck through Proton compatibility layer. Linux users can run it through Wine or Proton. Mac and console versions are not currently planned but may be considered in the future depending on development resources.
Hellversus uses keyboard controls by default: WASD for movement, Z for Light Attack, X for Medium Attack, C for Heavy Attack, and V for Special moves. Controller support is available, though some users have reported input mapping issues with DualShock 4 controllers. Check the in-game settings to remap controls as needed.
Currently Hellversus only supports local versus mode for two players on the same PC. Online multiplayer with rollback netcode is planned for future updates. In the meantime, players can use third-party tools like Parsec or Steam Remote Play Together for online matches with friends.
